The Egg Cracker Suite
Here's a Walter Lantz Swing Symphony released during Easter holidays 1943, directed by Ben Hardaway and Emery Hawkins. "Egg Cracker Suite" is the last ever cartoon appearance by Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. And speaking of Easter rabbits... click here to see my Easter greeting card for this year . It's a frame taken from a cartoon I directed in 1932 :)
Channel 5 aired LAntz cartoons too? In its heyday, the network must've been a virtual conucopia of lesser-seen classic cartoons.
I believe this is the Oswald model that would be the norm in comics for decades (The gray/brown-white fur model). And I can't imagine I'm the only one who finds it strange that he's the only rabbit here wearing clothes.
It may been the end of Oswald's film career, but this film was the begining of a young voice actress who will go to become one of the best known animation voice artists. Can anyone guess who voiced Oswald in this film?
Bought a copy of it on Super8 film from Castle way back in the 1970s. Printed on Polyester film stock the colour has held up really well. "The Egg Cracker Suite" is a really nice film and in keeping with the times of its release in 1943.....a timeless classic.

As much as I love Oswald, sometimes I cannot stand this cute design.

ReplyDeletethe one of the hen knitting stockings is mildly creepy since the stocking looks more like a chicken let than the ones they drew on the chickens.
ReplyDeleteThanks nic to remind me that!
ReplyDeleteIt totally escaped me!
't was the amazing June Foray!
