Cartoons from the 30s and 40s often contain caricatures of celebrities of those times. While some of the caricatured stars are easily recognizable still today, other may look rather obscure.
The series of posts that I start today will help you identify all the caricatured people from various cartoons.
The first cartoon will be Tex Avery's "Hollywood Steps Out", so let's begin!

I like how they but a reference to Leon in that cartoon with the Loonry Tunes theme plays a bit.
ReplyDeleteAh! Fantastic stuff! Really enjoyed seeing these frames. I remember seeing this toon when I was a kid and not knowing who anyone was but still laughing!
ReplyDeleteCelebrities were so much classier back in the day.
I can help you id one more person - Cesar Romero is dancing with Rita Hayworth.
ReplyDeleteThe girl and the cloakroom, as well as the girl dancing with Cesar Romera, is Rita Hayworth.
ReplyDeleteYes, Rita Hayworth is dancing with Cesar. She is also in the cloakroom.
ReplyDeleteAt 1:07, just before Cary Grant starts speaking -- you see Adolphe Menjou at a table with a woman in a yellow dress. I can't place her, though.
ReplyDeleteThe girl in the cloakroom is a completely different person from the one dancing with Cesar. The one dancing with Cesar is definitely Rita Hayworth but the one in the cloak room is not her.
ReplyDeleteI believe the woman with Adolphe Menjou is Norma Shearer. And I believe the i.d. of Douglas Fairbanks is incorrect. I believe that to be Ronald Colman.
ReplyDeleteanyone know the name of the conga track?
ReplyDeletePaulette Goddard is the hat check girl working the cloak room
ReplyDeleteGreta Garbo is the cigarette girl.
ReplyDeleteBoth Bogart and Fonda's ancestry came from the Netherlands. It has been before Netherlands broke away from Spain!
ReplyDeleteCesar Romero danced with Rita Hayworth!
ReplyDeleteWith Cesar Romero, it's Rita Hayworth...
ReplyDeleteFriendly!
Mickey Rooney, the son of the British subject, is the very last surviving actor as of 2014 in this cartoon.
ReplyDeleteIf Oliver Hardy was there, where was Stan Laurel
ReplyDeleteCesar Romero is dancing with Ginger Rogers, not Rita ! Look at the hair and the face.
ReplyDeleteCan we get a year when this was relesed?
