Fethry Duck
Are you at least aware of the existence of this extraordinary character?
Fethry is really famous in Italy. He starred in a number of delightful stories, the best ones drawn by Giorgio Cavazzano, in which he was paired with Donald, his cousin, creating a team a la Laurel and Hardy (in one story they were even ghostbusters!).
The best stories with the character are the early ones, drawn by talented Al Hubbard and written by Dick Kinney.
When you have a great writer and a marvellous artist, you can't fail (just think at the Walsh-Gottfreson team).
This is probably my favorite story by Kinney/Hubbard, one of the funniest ever made with Fethry. Enjoy.

I believe this comic was based on the Woody Woodpecker cartoon, "Niagara Fools" (1956), which Dick Kinney co-wrote.

Talk about going plum-loco over the idea of becoming famous. Is Fethry always this crazy, or does the character often try to pursue various, sometimes fanatical, new hobbies?
What’s funny, however, that it was so convenient that there were numerous barrels, as well for some variation (wooden, steal, etc.) at his disposal, only to discover that, even in the end, everyone BUT he will take a dive down Niagara Falls.
BTW, you and every one else in Italy are lucky, what with the comics that are available. For example, one of your country’s most famous character, I think he went by the name of Diabolik; he was a sort of costumed super crook that spends most of his voyages committing crimes designed to make his adversary, a bumbling Italian police inspector, look bad. And as far as I know, tales of the American Wild West are continued to be well adorned in Italy.

They really need to make a cartoon with Donald and Fethry. Can you imagine the comedic potential?

On a simpler note, Thats great shot compostion in those panels. I like some of the long shots showing a lot of action within.

I seem to recall a series of Disney encyclopedia books made sometime in the late 80s. Each encyclopedia volume was "hosted" by a different Disney character.
There was one volume that was supposed to be on the history of aircrafts, and it was hosted by this character, Fethry, but on the opening page, he is identified as "Donald Duck". Whoops.

Brandon, the Fethry volume of "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Knowledge" is really the Animals book, AFAIK. But you're right about his renaming. The book series originated in Italy, where Fethry had been a common character since his debut. But in the USA, Fethry hadn't been seen since the 1960s. The American publishers (Grolier) figured kids wouldn't know who he was, so attempted to pass him off as Donald not just by renaming him, but also by erasing his long hair throughout!
These days we've got Fethry back as his geeky self in the Gemstone comics, and have had some fun presenting Kinney and Hubbard stories that have never appeared Stateside. Hold onto your stocking caps, we'll have another one in just a few months.

Fethry was also famous in Brazil where he had his own comic book. He is my favorite Disney character and I love his super-hero alter ego the clumsy Red Bat.
