The Little Cut-Up (1949)

Another Noveltoon shown on the France 5 channel (La Cinquième) eight years ago, and rarely seen before (or since) in such a good quality print. "The Little Cut-Up" is released on January 21 1949, and as you can guess from the screenshots, it gives an unique spin on the well known story about young George Washington and the cherry tree.

I don't think this cartoon is in the public domain, is it?

  2. I have NEVER heard of this Noveltoon before, so with these excellent screenshots, you guys managed to floor me and shock me at the same time.

I can't wait until I order Jerry's DVD so I can see the cartoon in motion (favorite screenshot: the bulging eye take of the Papa Bunny)

  3. Kevin,
The only trouble is...on Jerry's DVD the print is in b/w!! (yes, this cartoon is sooo rare!!).
However, I strongly suggest you to take JB's DVD with this cartoon anyway because it's the only way to watch the cartoon in motion and hear it with the original English language.

As said once (or even more times) I've managed to contact some people who could allow me to obtain logo free copies of these gems, but they refuse to cooperate, not understanding my intent as a collector: obviously I would not insert these in the trade circuit!
Anyway, it would be waaaay better if Viacom would release these on DVD and everyone would be able to enjoy them.
I'm trying to be able to enoy them (and let them be enjoyed by some trusted collectors friends of mine) but wouldn't be better if everyone would be able to enjoy them?
Jerry won many battles so I hope one day he'll be able to let "those Viacom people" understand the potential of what they got in their vaults.

So far these restored copies, logo free, are collecting dust in a place I don't think I have the right to name...sigh&sob!!

I'm not surprised by that. I'm just glad Jerry was able to make it available in some form. (Hopefully I'll have his DVD's by the summer)

    Maybe in the future.
As for me, starting from September I'll maybe able to do a post per month, if things will be ok. I'll start to work as a lawyer you know.

Hey Andrea! do you happen to know if the quality of jerry beck's DVD's is as good as your channel five recordings??? and what about When .G.I. Johnny Comes marching home and the Goal Rush?????

and trust me. I'll Probrably ask no more questions about famous noveltoons unless I find out about them.

  10. Jerry compiled them for references. They are of incredible historical value and I highly suggest you to buy them all. The quality is nowhere near to these channel 5 prints.
The majority of Jerry's copies comes from faded 16mm prints. However, those are complete.

Hey andrea! it's me again! hey do you think you can take a break from Famous Studio Cartoons???? (I mean seriosly andrea) why don't you post a columbia cartoon??? I mean, Your Last Columbia Cartoon Post was months ago and columbia cartoons were rarley seen so, I was thinking maybe, here's on how it would go if you agree with me. I think hammerson can do a post on the cartoon ''The Wee Men". Then, You can post a Tish Tash Moment thememd post on the cartoon ''Cinderella Goes To A Party''. Sounds Good??? please. if You make the switch I'd really Appreciate it

  12. Hi,
the fact is I have no more time to devote to this blog. I'm busy with work and social life. This was fun when I had to be at home because I had to prepare my law exams but now I can't be much involved with it.
I'm glad my good friend Hammerson is updating it.
I'll do a post maybe next month and, ok, I'll do it about that particular cartoon if I will remember.

This story is based on Mason Locke "Parson" Weems' story on George Washington and his cherry tree. It is an urban myth.
